The labyrinth in Ely Cathedral was laid in the stone pavement in 1870, and designed by Sir Gilbert Scott. The length of the path is the same distance as the length of the cathedral. A five-circuit square with protruding three-circuit octagons, a connection between five and eight.

It is a tradition in cathedrals to have the labyrinth in the west end, prevalent in France where priests would dance their way to the centre (Jerusalem).
