photo gallery dragon labyrinth
I was drawing a labyrinth in my sketchbook when I noticed on the rug before me a Chinese dragon, it felt only right to draw it onto the labyrinth.
This particular artwork lent itself to be a collaborative piece due to the size of it. It needs to be walked on and sat on to reach all the areas. Collaboration is wonderful. To work on a project together knits communication and synchronicity. Communal art pieces allow for play, conversation and encouragement.
evolution of the communal painting
I carry in the back of my mind an image of Aboriginal People in Australia sitting on the ground working communally on a painting. It’s years ago that I would have first seen a photo of this, but I have carried it in my imagination since then, often having the urge to paint large pieces on the floor, where people can gather, sitting, conversing and working together.
I purchased the paint sheet originally to paint a walkable labyrinth on it, but it was too small. What it did become was a painting that I took alongside the travelling labyrinth, so that a communal painting could happen simultaneously to the larger one.
